21-Day Fast 2023 – Day 4

In 21 Day Fast by Victory Church

Pause

What practice makes you feel especially connected to God? Is it journaling your prayers? Singing in worship? Being outdoors? Ministering to a neighbor? If it’s something you can do now, go do it! If not, plan for it and put it on your calendar to prioritize doing it later.

As we lean into this season of prayer and fasting, it’s important to know that we are not all created the same. On top of Bible reading, prayer, and worship, get to know yourself and what other practices help you better connect with God.

As you pause and pray over your time of reading and reflection today, ask the Holy Spirit to help you identify practices that might enhance your unique relationship with Him.

Matthew 5:27-32 New International Version

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

“It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”

Walk with God

As Jesus continues teaching through a set of laws, laws that we fail to live perfectly but that He came to live perfectly for us, what stands out to you?

Jesus lets us know, through some strong examples, that we don’t just sin through our actions but also through our thoughts. Take some time to assess any feelings of anger, lust, or judgments toward others. Invite God into those thoughts.

Overall, this passage of The Sermon on the Mount reminds us that sin isn’t to be handled lightly but to be taken seriously. As you invite God into this moment, repent when He highlights something. Remember, His Holy Spirit is here to help you. Welcome His guidance throughout your day. He is with you!
