Our State is in a Foster Care Crisis

The number of children in foster care in the state of Georgia has risen from 7,700 children in 2007 to over 13,000 today. Statewide there are only 4,000 foster homes. Gwinnett County has almost 500 kids in foster care and only 45 homes.

The fallout from the shortage of homes means children have to spend multiple nights in Division of the Family and Children Services offices or extended stay hotels across the state. Others are shipped out of the county to any available family. Imagine being pulled from the only home you’ve ever known (regardless of how bad the circumstances) and spending nights in a DFCS office or hotel instead of a bed in the home of a family who has been trained in trauma and loss.

Hundreds of kids age out of the system every year without stable and supportive adult connections to help them navigate life.

In conjunction with Connections Homes, Victory is stepping into the work of caring for the fatherless by creating a culture of care around the most vulnerable children and older youth in our community—foster children. God’s Word calls all of us to the work of caring for the orphan among us, and there are a variety of ways for you to get involved. You may become a foster parent, become a safe connection for an older youth who has no one, become a mentor, be a safe babysitter for a foster family, provide a monthly meal for a family, be a prayer partner, help with transportation and many other things.
