Character Bios

[JOANNA] [GENDER: FEMALE: AFRICAN AMERICAN] [AGE: 30 – 40] Joanna is adventurous and self-reliant. She is a bit confused about love and relationships because of her parents divorce at an early age. As much as she tries to avoid the same scenario as her parents, she finds herself and her life as a living reflection of what happened to her in her childhood. She is married to John. She loves John deeply and wants to do everything within her power to hold on to him and what they have. And this in turn contributes to their eventual divorce.

[DAD] [GENDER: MALE: AFRICAN AMERICAN] [AGE: LATE 20’s – 30’s] Joanna’s Dad is a loving father. Though he may be at times a bit silent, cold and distant towards his wife and daughter, he still cares for the overall health of the family. Later in Joanna’s life he does have a change of heart towards his family and divorces Joanna’s mother.

[MOM] [GENDER: FEMALE: AFRICAN AMERICAN] [AGE: LATE 20’s – 30’s] Joanna’s Mom is wise in thoughts but not in deeds. Her love for her family can be a bit controlling and demanding as she tries to “keep things together”. She is very loving, soft, and is a great shoulder to cry on in times of need.

[PLAYGROUND BULLY] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 10 – 13] The Bully is a confused young lady that only knows how to express her confusion and anger through physical abuse towards people she can physically overpower.

[JOHN] [GENDER: MALE: WHITE OR LATINO] [AGE: 30’s] John is a handsome, well-adjusted man on the outside. But on the inside something is missing and he longs for greener pastures. He is Joanna’s husband. He loves Joanna dearly and pursues her passionately in the beginning. As Joanna becomes more particular and controlling, like her mother, it drives John away because he longs for a “perfect” marriage. As the marriage grows older, so does his passion for taking care of Joanna.
